Konodon

image_edited.jpg

Konodon’s mission is to use art and education to build a multicultural bridge that connects people and highlights the cultures of the African diaspora. Central to this is the creation of a warm, inclusive community, where exchange, collaboration, and solidarity contribute to personal and collective growth.

Culture plays a key role in this: it connects people on a deep level, emphasizing both our unique identities and our shared humanity. It provides us with education and values and helps us find solutions when traditional policy tools fall short.

All of Konodon’s activities are focused on raising awareness and fostering cultural exchange. Through dance and music, participants learn not only artistic skills but also the history and meaning behind every movement and rhythm, which contributes to greater connectedness and respect for diversity.

Danse

1. Beginners

This class is perfect for participants with little or no experience. You’ll be introduced to rhythm and dance in an accessible way through simple, fun choreographies. The movements are explained step by step at a relaxed pace, with a focus on connecting with the rhythm.

4. Foundation

Choreographies are fun, but the basics are what really matter. In this class, you’ll discover the fundamentals of this dance style: what makes it so unique and rich? We’ll focus on essential concepts such as posture, sense of rhythm, and quality of movement.

2. Multilevel

In this class, dancers of all levels dance together. After a dynamic warm-up, you’ll dive right into a choreography. It’s perfect for beginners looking to advance, and at the same time, it’s an ideal practice space for intermediate and advanced dancers to refine their technique.

6. Dun dun Dance

A unique combination of dance and live drumming. Movement and music merge into powerful sequences. Each participant is given a drum and drumsticks to actively participate.

3. Advanced

For dancers with several years of experience (approximately 5 years or more). This energetic class features challenging choreography and combinations, with a focus on rhythm, cadence, and timing.

7. Kids fun

A fun double session (2 × 30 min) where children are introduced to dance and music. They explore both dance and drumming in a fun and interactive way.

Workshops & activities

1. Concert with TED talks

A high-quality concert to kick off the Konodon Festival. All national and international guest instructors will perform, as will the dance companies of Dansschool PURE.

4. Dundunba & DJ party

We’ll kick off the night with a Dundunba dance circle! Then we’ll continue the evening with our guest DJ, who’ll get the party started with African beats, R&B, hip-hop, reggae, and more!

2. History & culture

A theoretical lecture providing a general overview of Guinea’s history: the origins of dance and music, the process of modernization, the history of African ballet, and the diaspora in the Western world.

3. Closing ceremony

Before we say goodbye, we’ll gather to share our experiences from the weekend, enjoy a moment of togetherness, and take some photos.
